The Biggest Tapas Ever and Extreme Heat

After work on Thursday I headed to Valencia airport to catch my flight to Sevilla to spend the weekend with my uni friend, Amelia. It was my first time on a Vueling flight and also my first domestic flight and as I approached my gate I expected to see an orderly queue of people waiting to board, however in true Spanish style I was met with a mass of people huddled around near the gate and when we started boarding, said huddle all tried to get through the gate first. Another thing that made me laugh was when 5 minutes after take-off, the captain proceeded to tell us he was going to dim the lights for take-off...

In Sevilla the first thing I noticed was the heat as I stepped out of the airport in search of the bus, the heat that would get more intense in the following days, but it was like stepping into a sauna. I caught the bus to the bus station and then the coach to Zafra where Amelia lives. The coach took us through a lot of countryside as Amelia lives in the middle of nowhere and I felt like I was in an American movie where they are seemingly driving forever and hoping they arrive at their destination. I also completely forgot to ask how many stops it was to Zafra which caused a lot of panic when we stopped in a town with no signs and I had no clue as to where we were. However, I was very relieved to see that at least Zafra had a sign.

Zafra is such a cute place with its very narrow streets and surrounding hills although I can imagine it would get boring after a while.

On Saturday after waking up to the bad news that the Conservatives had been re-elected we headed off to Sevilla. After checking in and getting some lunch we walked to the Plaza de España and found the Valencia alcove. Plaza de España is so pretty and definitely the most impressive plaza I have seen so far.

It was such a hot day and by this point I was pretty much dying from the heat so after looking around some shops we returned to the hostel for a bit before dinner. After wandering around some tiny streets, seriously the streets here are so small it's a wonder anything can fit down them, we stumbled across a restaurant that had Patatas Bravas so I was instantly happy and we went in. The menu said that at the tables they didn't do a tapas size so I ordered a 1/2 portion of Patatas Bravas but the waiter said he would do a tapas size as we said we would share. Anyway, when the food came it was the biggest portion I have ever seen and if it actually was a tapas size I can't imagine how anyone could eat the full portion size, however the food was lovely despite it looking very English.

Typical Spanish dish right?
So good but the biggest 'tapas' I've ever seen!

On Sunday morning I was up extremely early to head to the airport and back to Valencia where despite the flight only having 48 passengers, my seat was changed and I was put next to a couple with a baby but thankfully they moved after take-off. I did however see a great view of Valencia from above coming into land and I had a lovely weekend with Amelia.
